History of Lavasa:

Lavasa is one of the planned cities advertised as the first hill town in India since independence. Lavasa is situated at the bank of Baji Palaskar, which is also located in the western ghat. The city is located in the lap of eight large hills that surround the prolific Varasgaon dam reservoir. In 2001 the Maharashtra government approved 10,000 acres of land to construct this modern city, which would be spread over 20 villages and hamlets. The first phase of construction, Dasway, on 1700 acres, began in 2005 and is completed. Work on Phase II of Mugaon stalled due to regulatory issues.
