Somnath Temple is situated in the western coastal area of Gujarat. It is believed that it is the first jyotirlinga among the 12 jyotirlingas. It is one of the famous Hindu pilgrimages in India, especially for Gujarat people. Somnath temple has been reconstructed several times as it was destroyed by the Muslim ruler several times. Even it is said Mahmud Gajani attacked Somnath temple to be robbed it completely. This temple is built as per the Chaulukya style architecture. The present temple architecture was constructed in the year 1951 under the supervision of Sardar Patel, and currently, our Prime Minister is the chairman of the trust.

 

History:

 

Somnath is one of the prominent pilgrimage points among the tourist in the account of Triveni Sangam. Three rivers meet at the Sangam point that is Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati. As per the devotee, Soma, the moon god, believed that he had lost his lustre due to the curse and bathed into the Saraswati River to become free from the curse. So the name of the town means the lord of the moon.
